Southside / 1199 Negotiation Update – 07/23/2020
On the heels of our eighth bargaining session, we wanted to take a moment to update you on the status of negotiations between Southside Hospital and 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East (1199).
During negotiations today, we’re happy to report that both parties tentatively agreed to include nurse practitioner representation on the hospital’s workforce safety committee. As you know, team member safety is critically important at Southside and foundational to our ability to deliver safe and effective patient care. We’re pleased that the committee will be bolstered by the input, expertise, and unique perspectives of our world-class NPs. Going forward, we’re committed to continuing to collaborate with 1199 to reach similar agreements that will ensure the safest and most productive work environment for you.
We also had lively discussions on a range of other topics, including hours, leaves of absence, weekend scheduling, and emergency vacancies. While we weren’t able to come to any agreements in those areas, we’re pleased with the progress of our discussions and feel confident in the ability for both sides to find common ground in upcoming sessions.
If you haven’t already done so, we encourage you to sign up to receive timely text message alerts about the status of negotiations by texting SSNP to 333-111.
We look forward to making further progress at our next negotiation session on Aug. 19, and will keep you updated.
